Company History

Smiling Star was incorporated by Jimmy New,PBM in 2001 as a neighbourhood playgroup provider in the Residents’ Committee at Block 32 Marsiling Drive. Within the next two years, with the help of supervisor Mdm Margaret Lim, it was expanded to 3 more centres in the Woodlands estate.

In 2002, with the help of supervisor Mdm Rajeswary D/O Ramasamy, Smiling Star Phonics was created at centres Block 32, 178 and 363. This was to enhance the learning of the English language

In 2004, it ventured into childcare centre and Smiling Star Childcare was started at Bukit Panjang Community Club, 8 Pending Road.

Smiling Star Kindergarten started in 2005 at Block 303 Woodlands St 31. This allows students from the Playgroup programme, to continue their pre-school education with the Kindergarten

With the emphasis on the importance of Chinese language, Speedy Chinese Characters Recognition(SCCR), Speedy Chinese Improvement Class(SCIP), as well as Han Yu Pin Yin Class programme enables the children from the Childcare level to achieve the minimum Chinese language standard equivalent to a Primary School child, and recognize Chinese characters in a fun way. 

As of today, there are about 30 locations in Singapore that Smiling Star offers its educational programme.
